Kimberley candidates square off in forum

The eight candidates vying for six City of Kimberley council seats in the Oct. 15 election squared off in the Kimberley & District Chamber of Commerce’s All-Candidate Forum last night.

Candidates Sue Cairns, Kevin Dunnebacke, Craig Janzen, Woody Maguire, Jason McBain (incumbent), Sandra Roberts (incumbent), Steven Royer and Andrew Skaien answered a range of questions during the two-hour forum at McKim Middle School’s theatre.

Kimberley voters also have local candidates to consider for Rocky Mountain School District Board of Trustees (School District No. 6), including incumbents Betty Lou Barrett, Ronald McRae and Sandra Smaill, along with Donna Andrews, Roxanne McIntosh and Darryl Oakley (former city councillor).

Last night’s forum is available to watch on the Kimberley & District Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. Hear from all of the school trustee candidates as well as all candidates for city council.

This election will also see the inclusion of a referendum question on the ballot to determine whether the electors approve of the city borrowing of up to $35 million to help fund the replacement of the existing wastewater treatment plant with a new facility.

Voters can view the Elector Assent Voting (referendum) question and all relevant documents and information on the City of Kimberley website.

The first advanced voting day is tomorrow, Wednesday, October 5, at Centennial Hall, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
