Kimberley City Council highlights

Regular Meeting, August 22

IN MEMORY OF JACK LAYTON

Council observed a Minute of Silence in honour of Jack Layton, Leader of the Official Opposition in the Canadian Parliament, New Democratic Party Leader, who passed away on August 22.

FLEXINET BROARBAND INC.

Council authorized entering a Network Access Agreement with FlexiNET Broadband Inc. for the provision of business internet at an installation cost of $1,500.00 plus taxes.

ROSS ROAD CLOSURE

A letter was received from residents of Ross Road requesting a closure of the road at the intersection of Ross Road and Robertson Road, which was referred to the Operations Committee for further consideration.

PAVING PROPOSAL – DEWDNEY WAY

Council received a proposal from residents of Dewdney Way to pave an area between the Purcell Condos and two residences, which was referred to the Operations Committee for further consideration.

MINERALS SOUTH CONFERENCE 2011

The Minerals South Conference which is being held at the Kimberley Conference & Athlete Training Centre this fall, requested sponsorship from the City.  Council agreed to participate as a Bronze Sponsor – for the Short Course Lunch in the amount of $500.

RCMP/SPEED WATCH ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

A request for sponsorship from the RCMP/Speed Watch Annual Golf Tournament was received, and the City will donate two – one month family passes to the Kimberley Aquatic Centre.

1 MORRISON ROAD

A request was received from property owners to allow access over a portion of property adjacent to 1 Morrison Road. Council authorized city signatories to execute a License of Occupation.
