Kimberley lights up

It was cold as heck but the Christmas spirit was in the air in Kimberley last night, Nov. 19.

With many folks returning from the voting booth, the Platzl was full of well-wishing community members, bundled up against -20 C temperatures, for the arrival of Santa Claus on the back of a city fire truck. Santa, oblivious to the late autumn chill, was available for free photographs for an hour after his arrival.

Despite the cold, kids made the most of the piles of sn

ow moved from Platzl walkways, and visitors mingled around the kiosks and goodies-dispensing tables.

The Kimberley Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Light Up, which occurred simultaneously in downtown Kimberley, created a brief burst of Christmas colour splendor, launching the Christmas shopping season leading to Dec. 25.

Downtown Kimberley merchants have plenty to offer this upcoming season – check them out and please try to shop local.
