MCA applauds RDEK for heeding residents’ concerns

The Meadowbrook Community Association (MCA) has written a letter commending the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Board of Directors for its decision not to support two bylaws which would have rezoned one RR-2 property into one smaller RR-2 lot and one RR-1 lot.

The MCA noted that the board had heeded the unanimous expressed opposition of residents.

The submissions regarding these bylaws reiterated the concerns residents expressed during and after the review of the Kimberley Rural Official Community Plan (OCP) about the quantity and quality of the water supply in Meadowbrook and the desire to maintain the rural character of the area.

In the letter, the MCA encourages the board to base future rezoning decisions on evidence on the quantity and quality of the water supply and an understanding of the community’s perception of acceptable development.

In addition, it encourages the board to take advantage of any upcoming revisions to the Local Government Act to engage in a public consultation process to institute policies and procedures that facilitate community input into land use decisions.
