Notes from City Hall

Brownbag Lunch with Mayor McCormick

On Wednesday, July 12, and on the second Wednesday of each month, City of Kimberley Mayor Don McCormick will host a brown-bag luncheon at City Hall from noon until 1:30 p.m. Bring your own lunch and have a discussion with the Mayor.

Watering reminder

Watering MUST be done between the hours of 4 to 10 a.m. AND 6 to 10 p.m. Residents of properties with odd-numbered addresses should water only on odd-numbered days. Residents of properties with even-numbered addresses should water only on even-numbered days. Please view our Water Shortage Response Bylaw for more information.

Water discolouration

Due to levels of high water, some residents have reported water discolouration affecting their tap water. This temporary discolouration is caused by high flows levels in our water system pipes.

Invasive weeds

The city would like to remind you that the Unsightly Premises Bylaw states: “Every owner and occupier of real property shall clear that property and shall keep it cleared of brush, noxious weeds, wild grass and other untended growths.” Blueweed and Knapp weed are spreading rapidly throughout the City. Let’s do our part to keep invasive species out of our gardens and the Nature Park. Please see the ‘City of Kimberley Unsightly Premises Bylaw No. 1872, 1995’ at www.kimberley.ca/city/bylaws.

Garbage cans need lids

Why does your garbage can need a tight-fitting lid? There is a link between animals eating garbage and animal aggression towards humans. When we reduce the risk of animals getting into our garbage, we reduce the risk of an animal becoming a nuisance or aggressive.  Please ensure your garbage is stored in garbage can with a tight fitting lid and in a way to prevent animals from accessing it. (Bylaw 2520, 2015, Sect. 4.4). Visit HERE to learn more about Solid Waste Collection.

Off leash areas

Did you know that Kimberley has three off-leash areas to exercise your animal? The Kimberley Nature Park, Lois Creek Trails and the Marysville Flats are all designated off-leash spaces. Maintaining control and cleaning up after your animal still applies in these three off-leash areas. If you are walking your pet in any other City park or playfield area, please remember that your animal must be on a leash at all times. To learn more, visit HERE and follow the link to Animal Control.

Building a new home?

The City of Kimberley has recently updated the Energy Efficient Building Incentive Program. All new homes with building permits issued after January 1, 2017 are eligible for a $500 rebate to help offset the cost a pre-construction performance evaluation of the building plans. The project is then eligible for a further rebate of 20-80% of the permit fee based on the post-construction energy performance of the building. If you are building a new home in Kimberley, please visit our website or contact the Building Inspector for more details by email: [email protected] or by phone: 250-427-9655.
