Notes from City Hall

Norton Avenue Water & Sewer Replacement

The City of Kimberley would like to advise residents that we will be replacing undersized water main and aging sanitary sewer main in order to improve system capacity and quality.

The work will take place on the 100 block of Norton Avenue between Burdett and Diamond Streets.

The city-owned portion of water and sanitary services on the west half of the block (odd numbered homes) will also be replaced at this time. Landscaping will be included in this project, with full road pavement replacement to be completed in 2019. Further notice may be given during construction with additional information and instructions regarding the work. Your co-operation and patience during the construction period is appreciated.

Ice Rentals

The City of Kimberley has rental ice available at the Civic Centre. Please call the Operations desk at 250-427-9660 to book your ice time.

Watering Reminder

Watering must be done between the hours of 4 to 10 a.m. AND 6 to 10 p.m. Residents of properties with odd-numbered addresses should water only on odd-numbered days. Residents of properties with even-numbered addresses should water only on even-numbered days. Please view our Water Shortage Response Bylaw for more information.

Fire Ban

Even with the slightly cooler temperatures, a FIRE BAN is still issued for the City of Kimberley. All fire permits including BBQ pits are suspended. These prohibitions do not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to a portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating that uses briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, so long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres. The use of a campfire apparatus that does not meet these specifications is prohibited.

The Southeast Fire Centre has also issued an open fire and campfire ban. You can find more information here.

Transit Commuter Service

Starting on September 5, the Kimberley Transit System will provide a weekday commuter service, making it easier and more convenient for Kimberley residents to get to Cranbrook for work or school. The new commuter service will run Monday through Friday, arriving in Cranbrook between 8:10 and 8:20 a.m., and leaving for Kimberley in the evenings between 4:40 and 4:50 p.m. For more information about schedule and routes.

Off Leash Areas

Did you know that Kimberley has three off-leash areas to exercise your animal? The Kimberley Nature Park, Lois Creek Trails and the Marysville Flats are all designated off-leash spaces. Maintaining control and cleaning up after your animal still applies in these three off-leash areas. If you are walking your pet in any other City park or play field area, please remember that your animal must be on a leash at all times. Learn more; follow the link to Animal Control.

Invasive Weeds

The city would like to remind you that the Unsightly Premises Bylaw states: “Every owner and occupier of real property shall clear that property and shall keep it cleared of brush, noxious weeds, wild grass and other untended growths.” Blueweed and Knapp weed are spreading rapidly throughout the city. Let’s do our part to keep invasive species out of our gardens and the Nature Park. Please see the ‘City of Kimberley Unsightly Premises Bylaw No. 1872, 1995’ at www.kimberley.ca/city/bylaws.
