Aggressive deer in the community
In the late fall, male whitetail and mule deer enter into the breeding (or rutting) season. This causes them to be more dominant, agitated and aggressive. They can be observed rubbing shrubs or trees with their antlers, displaying dominance by strutting, circling around and tail flicking. Please remember that a doe with fawns can be just as dangerous. For your own safety, please do not approach deer and give them lots of space when walking your pets.
If you are concerned for your safety or have deer in your neighbourhood that are no longer scared of people or pets, please call the RAPP (Report All Poachers and Polluters) Line at 1-877-952-7277. This line is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The city can only regulate issues in regards to people feeding deer. 2018 Community Grants
The 2018 Community Grant Application forms are now available on the City of Kimberley’s website at www.kimberley.ca. The deadline to submit an application is October 15. Please note that all 2017 grant recipients must complete a final report to be considered for a 2018 Community Grant.
Transit Commuter Service
The Kimberley Transit System now provides a weekday commuter service, making it easier and more convenient for Kimberley residents to get to Cranbrook for work or school. The new commuter service will run Monday through Friday, arriving in Cranbrook between 8:10 and 8:20 a.m., and leaving for Kimberley in the evenings between 4:40 and 4:50 p.m. For more information about schedule and route.
Norton Avenue Water & Sewer Replacement
Work still continues to replace the water main and aging sanitary sewer main in order to improve system capacity and quality in the100 block of Norton Avenue, between Burdett and Diamond Streets. The city-owned portion of water and sanitary services on the west half of the block (odd numbered homes) will also be replaced at this time. Landscaping will be included in this project, with pavement replacement to be completed in 2019. Further notice may be given during construction with additional information and instructions regarding the work. Your co-operation and patience during the construction period is appreciated.
Catch basins
As the cold weather approaches, the city is asking for the public’s support by helping keep leaves, and debris off the catch basins. Please report any blocked catch basins to the Operations Department at 250-427-9660 or [email protected].
Wood burning appliances
For those using wood burning appliances to heat their homes this fall and winter, the city asks that you familiarize yourself with our Wood Burning Appliance Emissions Control Bylaw. Please visit our website for more information.
Unattached trailers
The Bylaw Enforcement Officer would like to remind residents that unattached trailers are not permitted to be parked on the streets. This is in contravention of the City of Kimberley Streets and Traffic Bylaw No. 1877, 1995. To view this bylaw please visit our website.
Free public swim
