Friday is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Friday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This day honours survivors of Canada’s residential school system, their families, communities, and those who did not make it home. It helps ensure public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools in our country and is an important step in the process toward reconciliation.
The path to reconciliation is a continuous journey and there are listening and learning opportunities that the public can take part in scheduled throughout the region.
Events in our region:
ʔaq’am
- Truth & Reconciliation Walk, September 30 at 10am – St. Eugene Mission.
- ʔaq̓amnik School Traditional Pow Wow, October 1, Grand Entry times 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. – Dan Joe Memorial Gym.
Tobacco Plains
- The City of Fernie will be joining Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi ‘it Administration for a flag-raising ceremony. September 30 at 10 a.m. – Fernie City Hall.

- Movie screening of Indian Horse. September 30 at 1pm – Columbia Valley Centre.
Kimberley
- Orange Shirt Day/Truth and Reconciliation Walk, September 30 at 1:15pm – Civic Centre parking lot.
