Million points winner announced

At 2 p.m. on March 7, store and assistant store managers from Save-On-Foods and Overwaitea Foods stores throughout the East Kootenay came together to draw for one million More Rewards points in support of the now completed East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) MRI: An Image of Health Campaign.

Managers Shane Warman (Cranbrook), Mark Lento (Fernie), Dwayne Westlund (Golden), Andrew Sanders (Kimberley) and Ryan Nesbitt (Sparwood), with the help of EKFH Directors Russ Colombo and Dale Hildebrandt, made the draw from hundreds of tickets entered.

Lucky ticket #16443 belonging to Melba Handley of Cranbrook was announced the winner of the one million More Rewards points.

When contacted by EKFH, Mrs. Handley excitedly shared, “I am thrilled. I love Save-On-Foods and have shopped there for years. I’m overwhelmed with the prize.”

In addition to the major prize draw, secondary community prizes of 100,000 More Rewards points were also drawn.

Community winners are Diane Dopper (Cranbrook), Doug Reid (Creston), Jeannie Watson (Fernie), Scott Soles (Golden), Heather Krane (Kimberley) and Sonya Hutchinson (Sparwood).

The More Rewards points can be redeemed for a 60-inch ultra-HD TV, an Apple MacBook, more than $4,000 in More Rewards Travel, and much, much more! By buying a raffle ticket, supporters helped to secure the funding to bring a permanent MRI to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital so patients can receive the care they need closer to home.

“We are thrilled with the results of the One Million More Rewards Points Raffle, and it’s because of the fantastic customers of Save-On-Foods and Overwaitea Foods that we were able to contribute more than $27,000 to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health’s campaign to get a permanent MRI in the region,” said Ryan Nesbitt, Store Manager in Sparwood. “This is an important cause to our neighbours and the people we, as a company, serve, and the way they embraced our stores’ initiative was inspiring.”

Thanks to the outpouring of generosity, from this and other fundraising events and donations, the MRI: An Image of Health Campaign met its $650,000 fundraising goal in a record-breaking six months (instead of the typical two-year length of a campaign).
