Current District of Invermere Mayor Gerry Taft is officially launching his campaign to be elected MLA for Columbia River-Revelstoke by opening his Golden campaign office on March 22.

Members of the public are invited to drop in between 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday to meet Gerry and the rest of his campaign team.

“Even though I’ve been actively campaigning for a number of months, we’ve reached the stage in the election campaign where it is time to open offices across the constituency,” said Taft, the BC NDP candidate who is running to replace the current MLA for Columbia River-Revelstoke, Norm Macdonald, on May 9.

“My campaign team is growing and we’re gearing up ahead of the official start of the election period which will occur on April 11. This is the date when the election will be officially called.”

Taft and his campaign manager, Joy Orr, are encouraging people to get involved in the campaign.

“As the campaign manager for Norm Macdonald’s campaigns, I know just how important our volunteer base is to our success,” said Orr. “While the BC Liberals rely on big money donors to pay for staff and other resources, we depend on small donations from regular people and on those who give freely of their time to get the campaign work done.

“Every election, hundreds and hundreds of citizens across the constituency volunteer in our campaigns and it is that passion and commitment that allows us to be successful in this region.”

Taft is running against Fairmont Hot Springs resident Doug Clovechok (BC Liberal Party) and 18-year-old Columbia Valley resident Samson Boyer (Green Party) in the May 9 provincial election.
