FSS sending 16 to provincials; funding help needed
The Fernie Secondary School Boys and Girls Ski/Snowboard Teams recently participated in the East Kootenay Ski/Snowboard Races held in Kimberley on February 12, competing against schools from Cranbrook, Kimberley, Invermere and Golden.
Only the teams and/or individuals with podium finishes qualify to compete at provincials, which will be held in Whistler this year.
The students are proud to have won, on behalf of Fernie, four top three finishes for the boys and girls snowboarding as individuals, third in the boys GS skiing team, and first place for the girls GS skiing team.
Overall Fernie won first place for the Combined Girls/Boys GS (Skiing) bringing home the trophy for the second year in a row!
As a result, Fernie Secondary School will be sending 16 athletes to provincials.
Unfortunately, the cost to get to Whistler is quite high and to raise that kind of money in such a short time will be a challenge so we are doing some major fundraising to help bring the costs down.
The team is reaching out to the community at this time for financial support and are hoping that you are able to support the FSS Alpine Ski/Snowboard Teams.
Funds are needed to cover the two major costs of bussing (approx. $3,000) and accommodation for five days (approx. $4,000).
The team will be travelling March 1-2, skiing March 3-5, and traveling back March 5-6.
You can help most by donating cash, but we are also holding a silent auction and a donation of items or services that we could auction off would also make a difference and help us get to provincials.
The opportunity to send these 16 kids from our small community is quite an honour.
