FSS teams need help to get to provincials
The Fernie Secondary School (FSS) Boys and Girls Ski/Snowboard Teams recently participated in the East Kootenay Ski/Snowboard Races held in Golden on February 16, competing against schools from Cranbrook, Kimberley, Invermere and Golden.
Only the teams and/or individuals with podium finishes qualify to compete at provincials, which will be held in Revelstoke this year.
The students are proud to have won, on behalf of Fernie, four top three finishes for the boys and girls skiing and snowboarding as individuals, second in the boys GS skiing team, the girls GS skiing team, as well as the boys GS snowboarding team, and first place for the girl GS snowboarding team! As a result, Fernie Secondary will be sending all four teams and 22 athletes to Provincials.
Unfortunately, the cost to compete and get to Revelstoke Ski Resort (pictured) is quite high and to raise that kind of money in such a short time will be a challenge so we are doing some major fundraising to help bring the costs down.
The teams are reaching out to the community at this time for financial support and are hoping that you are able to support the FSS Alpine Ski/Snowboard Teams. Funds are needed to cover the three major costs of busing, lift tickets and hotels for three days (approx. $7,200).
The team will be travelling March 1, skiing March 2-4, and traveling back March 4. You can help most by donating money, but we are also holding a silent auction, and a donation of items or services that we could auction off would make a huge difference and help us get to provincials. We will also be collecting bottles for a bottle drive prior to the trip and doing various other fundraisers such as a bake sale at the Ghostrider game yesterday to try our best to raise enough money.
The opportunity to send these 22 kids from our small community is quite an honour, and we are very proud to have qualified with every team.
