EKC announces loans for downtown patios
With the City of Cranbrook moving forward with Downtown Seasonal Patio Bylaw No. 3860, East Kootenay Community Credit Union (EKC) is ready to help.
Patios will increase the vitality of the community plus help local business owners grow their business. If the expense is an obstacle EKC is now offering low interest loans up to $6,500 to all Cranbrook downtown businesses that plan to add a seasonal patio and help support a vibrant downtown, EKC stated in a media release.
Patios have created more energetic communities in other areas. Vancouver has had great success considering their amount of rain.
In an article in the Vancouver Sun by Susan Lazaruk, a Vancouver restaurateur noted, “Patios infuse the realm with fresh energy. Vibrant and lively streets, in turn, support businesses and help strengthen a community’s sense of place. Patios animate and activate a space. It generates a certain energy and level of fun.”
“EKC applauds the city council, Downtown Business Association and all who supported and approved the bylaw. If restaurant patios increase revenue by 30% (according to industry analyst Joe Stanton of Elevate Research), why wouldn’t B.C.’s sunniest community be supportive. Together we can continue to keep downtown Cranbrook vibrant,” the EKC release said.
