Radium a traffic hot zone as Trans-Canada closed
Highway 93 through Kootenay National Park and Highway 95 from Radium Hot Springs north to Golden are currently “nuts” right now, according to social media, as traffic is re-routed from the Trans-Canada Highway after a large rock slide west of Field earlier this evening.
The highway is closed 16 km west of Field because of the rock slide, which happened as contractors drilled holes to place explosives for rock scaling work. Two workers were taken to hospital with minor injuries in the slide.
DriveBC reports that a geotechnical assessment will be done tomorrow at noon.
The alternate route around the closed highway is via Hwy 95 and Hwy 93S.
There is no estimated time of opening, until at least re-assessment at noon tomorrow.
It is believed the Trans-Canada could be closed up to 72 hours.
