RCMP nab threatening man near Hosmer

Elk Valley RCMP had alternating portions of Highway 3 closed yesterday between Fernie and Sparwood while officers attempted to apprehend a motorcyclist.

The 53-year-old Alberta male rider reportedly threatened Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers near Yahk, and later fled from police in Fernie when they attempted to stop him.

“RCMP set up various highway closures in order to stop the suspect safely who had been driving well in excess of the speed limit in order to evade apprehension,” reported Cpl. R. Wright of Elk Valley RCMP.

Police arrested the suspect near Hosmer after a brief attempt to flee on foot. The suspect has been charged with two Counts of Uttering Threats under the Criminal Code and two counts of Flight from a Police Officer under the Criminal Code.
