Coun. Blissett not Alberta-bound

Following the recent announcement by Kootenay East MLA Tom Shypitka that he was resigning his City of Cranbrook council seat and a follow-up announcement by Mayor Lee Pratt that a by-election would soon be called, a rumour began that Councillor Norma Blissett had moved to Cochrane, Alberta.

Several people contacted e-KNOW asking if we had heard that Coun. Blissett no longer lived in the city, or was leaving, and queried why her seat wasn’t being included in the by-election.

We contacted Coun. Blissett this afternoon and she nixed the rumour.

“No, I haven’t moved to Cochrane, Alberta and I plan on staying on city council until the end of my term. Also, I’m quite excited about attending UBCM (Union of B.C. Municipalities conference) this September with the new provincial government ministers in attendance,” she replied.
