Riders forward a KIJHL star of the week
Fernie Ghostriders forward Kort Kisinger has been named one of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s (KIJHL) 3 Stars for the week ending Jan. 16.
Osoyoos Coyotes defender Ethan Floris and Nelson Leafs goalie Tenzin Mint were also named as weekly stars.
The Calgary, Alberta product had four goals and seven points in three games for the Ghostriders, including a game-winning goal. Kisinger (pictured right) began the week scoring a goal to give his team a 3-1 lead against the Columbia Valley Rockies in an eventual 4-3 loss. Kisinger scored the winner in a 4-1 final against the Golden Rockets. His 11th of the season gave the Ghostriders a 2-0 lead in the opening period. He added another goal and assist.
Against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks, in a 6-5 overtime win, he had a goal and two assists. His last helper set up Jake Oviatt for the OT winner. In 30 games, Kisinger has 13 goals and 35 points to lead the Ghostriders in points. His 35 points also rank him eighth overall in the league.
Ethan Floris – Top Defenceman
The Vanderhoof product had a goal and an assist in a Coyotes 5-3 win over Kelowna. Floris’ eighth goal of the season tied the game at three, then Floris assisted on the Coyotes’ fifth goal. Against North Okanagan, Floris scored his ninth of the season to give the Coyotes a 3-1 lead in a 6-5 final. Floris is second on the Coyotes in points for blueliners with nine goals and 19 points in 31 games.
Tenzin Mint – Top Goalie
The hometown product won both his games for the Leafs, earning a 4-1 victory against Grand Forks and 9-1 against Castlegar. Mint turned aside 51 of 53 shots combined for a .962 SP and a 1.00 GAA. Mint made 31 saves against Grand Forks. With the wins, Mint improved his record to seven wins in 14 games with a 2.68 GAA and .895 SP. He is one win shy of tying his career high from the 2019-20 season.
