Tuber rescued from Elk River near Hosmer
On July 2 at 1:58 p.m., Elk Valley Regional RCMP received a request from BC Emergency Health Services to attend to a location in the Elk River near the 600 block of Thorne Road near Hosmer.
A 45-year-old man, who had been on a float tube in the river while wearing a life jacket, had come off the tube and attempted to self-rescue, but ended up standing in the river with his legs pinned against a log jam near that location, reported S/Sgt. Svend Nielsen, Elk Valley RCMP Detachment commander.
“The current was too strong for him to move on his own and so he needed to be rescued. Fernie Search and Rescue (SAR) was tasked to save the man from the rapidly flowing water.”
SAR attended with helicopter support and was able to extract the man out of the river and bring him to safety to be checked out as needed by BC Ambulance paramedics.
“Elk Valley RCMP wish to thank all SAR who participated in the search/rescue efforts. Our investigation is concluded,” S/Sgt. Nielsen said.
