Obituary of Roger John POSTLETHWAITE
Roger John POSTLETHWAITE
We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear Roger, a loving Husband, Father, Brother, and Friend.
Roger was sadly predeceased by his son Andy. He is survived by his loving wife Christine, daughter Linda, sister Susan and brother Martin. He will also be missed by his step-grandchildren Katelyn and Tyler and his many good friends.
Roger was born in Nottingham, England, the eldest of three children. On leaving school, he qualified as a surveyor, work that took him to Holland, Denmark, and Nigeria. In 1966, he married his wife Christine and in 1967 they emigrated to Canada, living first in Lynn Lake, Manitoba before moving to British Columbia.
The family settled in Fernie in 1972 where Roger worked at the Elk Valley Coal Mines until 1992 – most of it underground, which he loved. On leaving the mine, he obtained his Class 1 Driver’s License and after a few years as a long-haul truck driver for a transportation company, he settled at Dicken Bus Lines doing the mine runs and charters.
Roger enjoyed his retirement, golfing with his friends, spending time at Kootenay Lake and most years taking holidays, often back to Europe.
We are grateful for the care and compassion shown to Roger by the Doctors and Nurses at the Elk Valley Hospital and the kindness shown by so many people in Fernie.
