CPKC working to remove damaged rail car in Galloway
Following a recent derailment outside of Jaffray, the team from CPKC is continuing the clean-up efforts and today will be working to load one of the damaged cars to remove it from the site, the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) reported this morning (Sept. 23).
“The affected car was carrying propane and before it can be moved, they will have to flare off any remaining propane in the car for safety reasons.
“While this is a routine operation for the rail line and is done in a safe and controlled manner with fire suppression on site, it will create a large “flame” during this operation – which may be visible from the highway and area around Galloway,” the RDEK noted on social media.
“We are sharing this on behalf of CPKC so residents and travellers in the area are aware that it is a planned and safely controlled operation in the event they see flame in that area.”
