Routine call escalates to major arrest and weapons seizure
On December 27, Cranbrook RCMP was dispatched to the Dollar Tree store parking lot to conduct a check well-being after receiving a report of a woman slumped over in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle.
Officers attended, and spoke with the woman, and through subsequent observations and investigative queries officers formed grounds to detain the woman on suspicion of being in possession of a controlled substance.
During the detention, she was found to be concealing a prohibited weapon in her jacket, at which time she was arrested.
A search of the vehicle incidental to the arrest resulted in the recovery of stolen property as well as a loaded, unregistered handgun.
