Local teams facing off in round one of KIJHL playoffs
The Kimberley Dynamiters and Columbia Valley Rockies will face off against one another in the first round of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) playoffs beginning Friday, March 6.
And the Fernie Ghostriders will welcome the Golden Rockets to town for game one of that series – right on time for the start of Griz Days.
The 19-22-3 Rockies enter the playoffs with a seven win and three loss record in their past 10 games.
However, the 31-9-2-2 Nitros, tied for second overall in the league, are also charging into the playoffs, 7-2-0-1 in their past 10.
Meanwhile, 24-15-3-2 Fernie is also heading to the playoffs sporting a seven win, three loss record in their past 10, while 23-18-3-0 Golden sputters in with four wins, five losses and one overtime loss in the past 10 games.
With a 15-26-1-2 record, Creston Valley Thunder Cats will miss the post season.
Kimberley hosts Columbia Valley at the Kimberley Civic Centre at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7 before the series heads to the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena in Invermere for games three and four on Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 10.
Fernie hosts Golden at the Fernie Memorial Arena at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, with the series shifting to Golden & District Centennial Arena for games three and four on Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 10.
