Area closure for Sinclair Canyon pullouts

Due to loose and falling rocks, Parks Canada has closed two highway pullouts near Sinclair Canyon on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park.

Warming temperatures have resulted in periodic rockfall near Sinclair Canyon. Highway crews are monitoring the situation and removing debris frequently. Drivers should be aware that falling rocks present a risk to public safety.

At this time, Highway 93 remains open.

Don’t stop to remove rockfall from roadways, or stop to take photos of rockfall.

When visiting Kootenay National Park, please prepare for variable conditions:

  • Check DriveBC.ca and 511.alberta.ca for updated road information.
  • Keep your gas tank or battery full.
  • Pack an emergency kit including warm clothing, food, water, and other essentials.
