Obituary of Michael John “Todd” Fisher

Michael John “Todd” Fisher

It is with great sadness that the family of Michael John “Todd” Fisher wish to announce his peaceful passing on April 4, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Todd was born in Creston, BC on August 28, 1946 – the middle child to Murray and Bernice Fisher. The family moved to Invermere in 1960 when they purchased and ran the local grocery store. Todd attend DTSS and graduated in 1965. Soon after graduating he became an RCMP officer and was stationed in many small towns throughout southern Saskatchewan. While working security detail in Montreal at Expo ’67 he met and fell in love with the love of his life Claudette Bertrand. They were married in her hometown of Ponteix, Saskatchewan on September 28, 1968. Soon after, Todd retired from the RCMP and they moved to Invermere to take over the family grocery store with his friends Bob Conroy and George Carr. After they sold Super Valu Todd enjoyed many jobs that kept him active and out in the public socializing – AG Foods, IGA/Sobeys, Liquor Store, Copper Point Golf Course and Canco to name a few.

Todd was very active in his community. He served on the board of directors for Pynelogs, received the Paul Harris Fellow award for his service in the Invermere Rotary Club, received the Governor Generals Exemplary Service medal for over 25 years’ service as a member of the Invermere Volunteer Fire Department, served as the local Coroner alongside of his dad for many years, was a charter member of the Invermere Rotary Club and Rotary ball team, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and served many positions on the board of Swan Haven Investments. He also enjoyed his daily morning coffee group at Kootenay Coffee Works and his afternoon beer group at the Station Pub. There were also the numerous annual camping and quadding trips he took with his Nike Hike group.

In more recent years after Claudette’s passing, he enjoyed travelling at Arizona, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Maritimes, Florida and Tofino.

But the real joy in his life was spending as much time as possible at his cabin at White Swan. There he was the unofficial mayor and head lawn mower. He was happiest fishing, hosting Happy Hour on his sundeck and countless times around the campfire. He was proud of all his children and grandchildren and loved cheering them on in support of their sports, activities and successes in life.

Todd was pre-deceased by his parents, Murray and Bernice Fisher, his wife Claudette, his sister Lynda and brother-in-law Bill, mother and father in-law Rolande and Ted Bertrand, brother-in-law Leo and niece Janet.

He is lovingly survived and remembered by his daughter Nicole (Kevin), Laura (John), Joanne (Colin); his son Kevin (Amanda); grandchildren Morgan, Brody (Jaclyn), Erik, McKenna, Brennan, Ashley, Ethan, Klara and Elena; his brother and best friend Ken (Debra); nieces Kim, Kathy, Sherri, Shawna and Monica and nephew Scott; brother-in-law Rene (Gisele); nieces and nephews Sandra, Monica, Francis, Darren, Corwin and Shawn as well as a large extended family.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the amazing care provided by all the staff that cared for Todd in his final weeks, including those with the BC Ambulance Service, the Invermere District Hospital and the Cranbrook District Hospital.
