Rockies’ Godley named Most Sportsmanlike Player
This week the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) will announce its Overall Award winners for on-ice excellence: Most Valuable Player, Top Scorer, Top Defenceman, Top Goaltender, Rookie of the Year, Most Sportsmanlike Player, Coach of the Year and General Manager of the Year.
Today the KIJHL is pleased to announce that Peter Godley of the Columbia Valley Rockies has been named the Most Sportsmanlike Player.
Godley, a Calgary native, spent eight minutes in the penalty box in 42 games and played an average of 21:29 a game.
“Peter plays hard, honest and within the rules. He has such a good stick and has his body in the right position to make defensive plays,” said Rockies head coach-general manager Tucker Braund.
“He plays stick on puck, not on the opponents stick or in the hands so he rarely gets stick infractions. He skates well and always has his feet moving, which allows him to check with his feet. He’s never reaching or cheating.”
Braund added that Godley is a good, respectful person, who wants to be the best at everything he does and knows he needs to be on the ice to be effective.
He led the Rockies in points with 51 (17G, 34A) and was +21. The 5-10, 175-pound forward played in all situations – being a key piece of their special teams playing 199:19 on the power-play and 102:40 on the penalty-kill. Godley earned one KIJHL Team of the Week selection.
