Local named KIJHL Rookie of the Week

Scoring the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) Cup-clinching goal earned Kimberley Dynamiters defenceman Avery Lynch Rookie of the Week honours, the final one for the 2025-26 season.

In the final two games of the KIJHL Cup final against the Princeton Posse, Lynch averaged 15:41 of time on ice a game and was +4, while not being on the ice for a goal against. The Cranbrook native scored the double-overtime winner 1:33 into the period while playing as a forward.

“I busted past their defenceman and it became a foot race or else it was an icing call,” said Lynch. “I got to it first and just shot it as hard as I could. That play and goal doesn’t happen without my teammates.”

The 6-1, 185-pound blueliner said the last two games were his strongest. Understanding the importance of game six as a must win game, he stuck to their game plan and played simple hockey.

Lynch played 13 regular season games and collected five assists. He then played 19 games in the KIJHL Championship and had three goals and four points.
