The City of Kimberley is implementing Stage 3 Water Restrictions as a proactive measure in response to current wildfire conditions and the community’s evacuation alert status.

Over the past several days, the city has observed a significant increase in water consumption throughout the community. While we understand residents are taking steps to protect their properties and maintain landscaping during this challenging time, the elevated demand is placing additional strain on our water system.

At this time, our priority is ensuring the city’s water infrastructure is operating at its fullest capacity to support emergency response needs. Maintaining adequate reservoir levels and system capacity is critical should fire suppression efforts be required within or around the community.

The city is also aware that the BC Wildfire Service may require access to water supplies, including the Mark Creek Reservoir, if conditions worsen.

Moving to Stage 3 restrictions is a precautionary and proactive step intended to preserve water resources during this period of heightened wildfire risk. We recognize this may be inconvenient; however, reducing non-essential water use now helps ensure our community remains prepared for potential emergency situations.

We are hopeful these restrictions will be short-term. The city will continue to closely monitor wildfire conditions, water system demands, and reservoir levels. Should the situation improve, Stage 3 restrictions may be rescinded and watering allowances restored.
