Rotary Park work begins Monday

New fencing and installation of a lighting system for the Cenotaph at Rotary Park in Cranbrook is to begin on Monday, August 10, with construction to take about five weeks to complete.

In February 2025, Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 24 approached the City of Cranbrook regarding concerns of ongoing vandalism around the Cenotaph. The city and the Legion have been working together closely on developing improvements that will better protect and preserve this important monument going forward.

The existing chain fence offers very little to no barrier to keep people back from the Cenotaph itself.

The city has also been coordinating with the Fisher Peak Performing Arts Society to ensure that this construction work has as little negative impact as possible to the Thursday night Summer Sounds event in Rotary Park.

The public are asked to please use caution while accessing the Cenotaph area at Rotary Park, while the contractor is working for your safety.

Work is expected to be completed ahead of the Royal Canadian Legion’s 100th Anniversary on September 12.
