Police alerted after trout stolen from hatchery
Kootenay Trout Hatchery Visitor Centre today reported a recent theft of trout and is asking the public for help in identifying two individuals caught on security camera footage.
On Friday, August 7 between 11:30 p.m. and midnight, two individuals came onto the hatchery grounds “and stole many of the beautiful rainbow trout from our moat,” the hatchery stated on social media.
“These fish are part of what makes our hatchery special, and their loss is deeply disappointing as they are irreplaceable.”
As shown in the photos, the suspects’ vehicle and one of the individuals were captured on the hatchery security cameras.
A case has been opened with the local RCMP under File #2026-7876.

“We appreciate the community’s help in protecting our hatchery, our fish, and the hard work that goes into caring for them. Thank you,” the hatchery added.
