Environment Canada has today (August 12) issued a severe thunderstorm alert for the Cranbrook, Kimberley and South Country areas of the East Kootenay, as well as Creston and area.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain, Environment Canada noted.

Driving conditions may be difficult.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
