New Principal For Sparwood Secondary School

Frank Sopko was recently appointed principal of Sparwood Secondary School as of the 2013/14 school year by the School District 5 (SD5) Board of Education.

According to SD5 Board chair Frank Lento, Frank Sopko has a proven track record of commitment to both SD5 and the Elk Valley communities.

“Frank is a fourth generation Elk Valley resident. He started out as a summer student working for the district 30 years ago. He’s been an educator for the district for 25.”

Sopko was born in Fernie, became a tradesman and worked as a carpenter on maintenance for SD5 before becoming a teacher, vice-principal and principal. He is currently involved in preparing Grade 6 students from FJ Mitchell Elementary for their successful transition to grade seven at Sparwood Secondary School.”

“I enjoyed teaching, especially woodwork and carpentry,” said Sopko. “But there’s something really exciting about being part of a leadership team that enables all students to acquire the skills they need to be successful.”
