Passersby help control grassfire
By Chad St. Pierre
Cranbrook RCMP and British Columbia Forest Service Wildfire Management Branch responded to a roadside grass fire July 30 off the North Star Trail, near the skeetshooting centre between Kimberley and Cranbrook. The fire grew to approximately 100’x100′. Passersby stopped and helped extinguish the fire using shovels, branches, sticks and anything they could get their hands on. Shortly after an on duty Forest Service fire fighter arrived keeping the fire under control. A water truck later extinguished the fire. It’s unknown what caused the blaze.
