RDEK to recognize outstanding volunteers
Each year the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) recognizes special citizens in our region — the always appreciated volunteers.
Once again, the search is on for the region’s volunteers of the year, reported RDEK communications manager Loree Duczek July 6.
Every year, the RDEK honours one outstanding volunteer from each of its six Electoral Areas through the Electoral Area Volunteer Appreciation Awards and nomination forms are now available.
“We recognize the significant contribution that all volunteers make in our rural communities and these awards give us an opportunity to pay special tribute to six individuals who have earned the respect and admiration of their peers through their volunteer efforts,” said RDEK Board Chair, City of Cranbrook Mayor Scott Manjak.
Nominees must be a resident of an Electoral Area and make voluntary contributions to the spirit, culture or people of the community.
Nomination forms can be filled out or downloaded from the RDEK website (www.rdek.bc.ca) and can also be picked up at the Cranbrook and Columbia Valley RDEK offices, from the Chairs of the Electoral Area Advisory Commissions and various Community Associations.
The deadline for nominations is July 29, 2011. Winners will be notified in September and invited to an awards dinner in their honour.
