Finishing what they started

Last autumn Wildsight members from the Columbia Valley scoured the hills and ravines on the Wilmer Wetlands Wildlife Sanctuary, collecting somewhere between 160 and 200 tires. They left them on the shore to be retrieved later.

In winter, when the ice was thick enough, a couple Wildsight’s members skidded and sledded them across the ice over a period of a couple months to a pickup point on the southern shore of the wetlands.

Last weekend, on Valley Pride cleanup day, Wildsight members and other volunteers collected the tires.

“Luckily, the rough road to water’s edge had finally dried out enough to get pickup trucks there – and we hauled ’em away for proper disposal in the Windermere Landfill site,” reported Wildsight member Pat Morrow.
