Unruly man a tough take down for RCMP
An agitated and disagreeable Alberta man was arrested last Saturday morning for assault and resisting arrest.
At 9 a.m., Oct. 10, Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment responded to a complaint of a male attempting to get into and damaging cars at Invermere Bay Condos.
While en route, a second call regarding the same male came in that he had assaulted a female. The male was described to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, reported S/Sgt. Marko Shehovac.
Cst. Peggy Bell located the male and attempted to reason with him and confirmed that the male was acting in a strange behaviour and the suspect made it clear he would not be arrested.
The 31-year-old male from Alberta was arrested but failed to comply and resisted arrest. A second police officer, Cst. Adolf Mohr, was called out to assist given the size of the male.
“During a struggle with police the male was pepper sprayed, which had no impact on him. The male continued to struggle with the officers who were joined in by the District of Invermere’s bylaw officer who happened to be in the area.
“Further compliance techniques with the use of the baton also had no effect on the male. He was finally taken down to the ground and controlled, and eventually handcuffed and placed in a police car,” Shehovac stated.
The male will be appearing in Invermere Provincial Court charged with mischief, assault and resisting arrest.
