Canfor conducting capital investment analysis in region
Rumours are swirling about Canfor re-opening the mill at Radium Hot Springs.
East Kootenay News Online Weekly this morning (April 4) contacted Canfor to ask about the possibility of the mill re-opening.
Media director Christine Kennedy promptly replied.
“Canfor is undertaking a capital investment analysis in the East Kootenay. At this point, no decision has been made about operations at our Radium division. When any decisions are made, the company will promptly inform the community, media and our workforce,” she stated.
The Radium Mill has been closed since 2009 when Canfor opted to shut it amidst a declining global economy.
However, Canfor’s presence in the region took a giant step forward last December when it purchased the Canal Flats and Elko mills off Tembec for $60 million.
