Just Lyfe at JulyFest

The City of Kimberley came alive with many blaring sounds and costumes last weekend when the 39th annual JulyFest unfolded.

Blessed with summer-like weather, including bright sunshine, heat and the odd thunderstorm, the community fundraising event was by all accounts another success.

Kicking off the July 15 to 17 events was the initial matches of the Canadian Bocce Championship, with 200 teams entered.

Brightly and some surrealistically garbed bocce maniacs started things off Saturday morning, leading to the annual downtown parade at 10:30 a.m.

Once again this year the parade featured a good number of colourful floats, clowns of all stripes, five floats carrying Selkirk High School reunion classes, including those of 1961, 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001.

E-KNOW only managed to capture three of the reunions in this photo presentation as this photographer was too busy shooting clowns and ducking for cover when said clowns charged, brandishing outlandish strands of balloons and candies –  apologies).

KidsFest in the Platzl was a natural funnel for folks following the parade.

Adding sporting zing to this year’s JulyFest were a soccer tournament, triples volleyball tourney and tennis tourney. In addition, the Extreme Skateboard Race on Sunday provided a thrilling conclusion to the weekend.
