The following is a synopsis of what occurred during the March 14 City of Fernie council meeting.

1. AGREEMENTS, LICENCES PERMITS & POLICIES

Fernie City Hall eve1.1 Development Variance Permit Application No. DVPA-382 2- Sunniva Drive

CouncilĀ authorizedĀ the issuance of DVPA-382 to vary the minimum rear yard setback as set out in Section 4.2.16.3.4 of Zoning Bylaw No. 1750 for a single family dwelling with attached garage from 7.5Ā metresĀ to 2.0Ā metresĀ along a portion of the east property line. Report to Council

2. BYLAWS

2.1 BusinessĀ LicencingĀ and Regulation Bylaw No. 2028, Amendment No. 3 Bylaw No. 2290, 2016 was read a first, second and third time and council directed staff to give public notice of their intention to amend BusinessĀ LicencingĀ and Regulation Bylaw No. 2028 and provide an opportunity for persons who consider they are affected by the bylaw to make representations to council. 2.2 Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 2231, 2014 Amendment No. 4, Bylaw No. 2288, 2016 & Floodplain Management Bylaw No. 2289, 2016

2.3 Streets and Traffic Bylaw No. 1400, Amendment #5, Bylaw No. 2291, 2016 Ā 

Streets and Traffic Bylaw No. 1400, Amendment No. 5, Bylaw No. 2291, 2016 was adopted. This will allow for the designation or reserve one or more spots for the use of persons carrying out a special purpose etcā€¦ e.g. Mobile Vending Report to Council | Bylaw 2291 Streets and Traffic Bylaw (Amendment #5)

3. OTHER INFORMATIONAL ITEMS

3.1 ResolutionĀ brought forward from the Committee of the Whole (COTW) meeting held 2016-03-14: Rod and Gun Club request for Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI)

Council approved up to $2,000 in RMI funding to the Fernie Rod and Gun Club to help offset costs associated with their 2016 Convention, contingent on the club signing a letter of commitment requiring that they submit a report to the City subsequent to the event detailing the information required to be provided to the povince in the 2016 Annual RMI Report in relation to the RMI funding contribution. Fernie Elk River Trail dog3.2 Resolution brought forward from the COTW Meeting held 2016-03-14 re: Off Leash Dog Trails to the regular meeting of March 14, for discussion and a decision. Council has given direction to staff to pull together literature and correspondence to provide various options to gather input from the broader community on how to deal with issue of Off-leash dogs in the community. 3.3 Resolution brought forward from the COTW Meeting held on 2016-03-14: regarding Highways Maintenance Resolution:

Council moved to support the above noted resolution and will forward it to the Association of Kootenay Boundaries Local Government (AKBLG) to be considered at the upcoming conference to be held in April in Kimberley. Lizard Creek Bridge3.4 Letter from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure re: Lizard Creek Bridge Preliminary design work is currently underway with the Ministry of Transportation with the final design stage scheduled to start in 2018 for the replacement of the Lizard Creek Bridge. 4. UPCOMING MEETINGS AND OTHER NEWS

4.1 The next scheduled council meetings are as follows:

1. Committee of the Whole (COTW) Tuesday, March 29 at 10 a.m. in council chambers.

2. Regular Meeting – Tuesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.

3. The 2016 / 2017 Columbia Basin Trust (CBT Community Initiatives & Affected Areas Community Involvement meeting) will be held on Monday, April 4 at 7 p.m. in council chambers. Eligible applicants are expected to attend the meeting to provide a brief oral overview of their proposal and answer any questions that council may have with regards to their application.

Fernie sewage4.2 Temporary Discharge to the Elk River

Residents are advised the city has obtained a permit from the Ministry of the Environment to temporarily discharge treated effluent to the Elk River due to excessive amounts of storm water in the sanitary sewer collection system. This discharge will take place in accordance with the permit and has been extended to March 28.
