Fernie fire claims life of 69-year-old man
An early evening house fire in Fernie Friday, Feb. 12 claimed the life of a 69-year-old man.
The fire, in a house at the intersection of 8th Avenue and 13th Street broke out about 4:45 p.m., with the Fernie Fire Department responding shortly after.
The first people on scene at the fire found the victim unresponsive in a covered walkway at the front of the house, but reported they couldn’t pull him out because of the intensity of the fire.
Next of kin have been notified by authorities but the victim’s name is not being released until BC Coroners Service and Elk Valley RCMP conclude their investigation.
