Voter turnout record set at first advance poll

City of Cranbrook voters smashed a record yesterday.

The city is reporting this morning that 713 registered and first time voters cast ballots at the first advance poll in the 2014 Municipal Election in Cranbrook on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

The previous record was 286 voters casting ballots at the first advance poll in the 2011 municipal election, which ended with the lowest overall vote count in city history.

Overall voters were happy with the new voting process, which includes the use of the voting machines and the new ballot, reported city Corporate Communications Director Chris Zettel.

Today is the second of three advance poll dates for voters until 8 p.m. tonight at the Senior’s Centre at 125- 17th Avenue South.

This date and location is for City of Cranbrook residents only. The third and final advance poll is Wednesday November 12.

If you are not registered on the List of Electors, please bring two pieces of identification when you come to vote.

General voting is Saturday November 15 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Laurie Middle School gym, located at 1808 – 2nd Street South.
