Cadets recognizing 100th anniversary of Vimy

Just before spring break, Larry Miller, Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 24, stopped by to visit the two Cranbrook Cadet units – 552 Key City Royal Canadian Air Cadets and 1813 Lord Strathcona Army Corp.

Mr. Miller had an interactive conversation with the cadets, about the importance of the upcoming 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge (April 9, 1917). After some research, legion members discovered that five Cranbrook boys were at Vimy Ridge, which makes the anniversary more personal. The photo display board helped the cadets to visualize this historic time.

The Battle of Vimy Ridge was the first time when all four divisions of the Canadian Corps successfully attacked, due to tactical and technical innovation, planning and preparation, all under Canadian command, instead of British. Cadets from 1813 Army Corp will be traveling to France for the anniversary.

Royal Canadian Legion will be parading to the Cenotaph in recognition of this battle, on April 9 at 2 p.m. Army Cadets not on the Vimy trip, will be join the Air Cadet Squadron for this parade.
