$2,300 PHO fines handed out in valley

Columbia Valley RCMP handed out three $2,300 tickets last weekend to partiers defying provincial health officer (PHO) orders surrounding COVID-19 and gatherings.

Two of the tickets were handed to rental home occupants in Windermere.

On Friday, January 8 at 8:45 p.m., police received a report of a party with several guests at a rental house on Swansea Road in Windermere. Upon arrival, police identified eight individuals from different households at the address. The individual who rented the house was issued a $2,300 violation ticket for hosting a non-compliant event, reported Sgt. Darren Kakuno, Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment commander.

Also on Friday, at 10:45 p.m., police received a report of a large party occurring at a rental house on Kootenay Street in Windermere. Police officers attended and discovered approximately 15 individuals at the residence who allegedly were not from the same household. The renter of the property was issued a $2,300 violation ticket for hosting a non-compliant event.

And on Saturday, January 9 at about 11 p.m., Columbia Valley RCMP received a report of a party occurring at a residence on 10th Avenue in Invermere. Officers attended and spoke to the homeowner who indicated he was celebrating a birthday and had about 10 guests. The homeowner was issued a $2,300 violation ticket for organizing or hosting a non-compliant event.
