Medical clinic coming back to Canal Flats

The Village of Canal Flats reports it has secured a commitment from Interior Health Authority to provide a physician and related services in Canal Flats.

“The doctor’s services will be located in the basement of the village office. When built, it is anticipated there will be an examination room, adult day services (services for folks who need help meeting basic needs), and a video telehealth portal,” the village reported in its latest newsletter.

“Parts of the village office basement will receive some required retrofitting — which will be paid for through the COVID-19 Safe Restart Grant for Local Governments.

“Anticipated timeline for medical services to re-commence in the Flats is the second half of 2022,” the village outlined.

The commitment from Interior Health comes “via the strong advocacy of Mayor (Karl) Sterzer and village council, and hard work of village staff,” the village newsletter added.

The space for the clinic in the village office is being vacated by Headwaters Arts Society.

The village said it is working to support the society in finding a suitable alternative location for it.
