Film production returning to Columbia Valley

The return of the film industry to the Columbia Valley is being hailed as an exciting new economic opportunity for the entire valley.

Over the past 12 months the Columbia Valley Community Economic Development Office (CVCEDO) team has been working tirelessly behind the scenes with regional partners to prepare for the film sector to be a prominent economic driver in the region, and yesterday’s announcement that the movie ‘All Night Wrong’ will soon be in production in the valley marks a significant achievement.

“Rarely does a region have an opportunity to develop a new economic sector and when it does it is important to assess the value that it could bring to the region and then demonstrate leadership in supporting its success,” shared Susan Clovechok, Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) Electoral Area F Director and former CVCEDO Advisory Commission Chair.

“The Columbia Valley garnered a great reputation in the film industry with previous productions, the most recent film being ‘A Mountain Between Us’ and now we have the opportunity to once again demonstrate to the film industry our can-do attitude and welcoming culture here in the Columbia Valley.”

All Night Wrong is a ‘comedy noir’, directed by Jason James and starring Academy Award nominee – Maria Bakalova and Zach Cherry.

The film brings an extensive partnership between Goodbye Productions, Resonance Films, Big Safari Productions, and Anamorphic Media.

“The Columbia Valley offers a perfect setting for independent films,” said Anamorphic Media Founder / Financing Producer Sara Shaak. “We have had tremendous support from local community champions, and the CVCEDO has provided key resources to address our complex needs. Their involvement has been instrumental in securing our first major project with a fantastic team. There’s much more to come!”

Current CVCEDO Advisory Commission Chair Lorri Fehr added: “This production brings potential educational, career, and business opportunities to the region. Through the CVCEDO, the Advisory Commission is excited to create and support projects to grow our economic base. We look forward to supporting the Film Sector as a growth area for our region.”

The work of the CVCEDO is a funded service of the RDEK through the Columbia Valley Economic Development Service.
