Police tracking Invermere school vandals

In the early morning of Friday, July 12, Columbia Valley RCMP was dispatched to a dumpster fire at David Thompson Secondary School in Invermere.

Officers arrived and found an active fire contained within a dumpster. Invermere Fire Department arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire.

RCMP also found graffiti on the dumpster, the front school doors, a pole, the school’s wall, and an enclosed trailer. Further similar graffiti was found on the JA Laird Elementary School property.

Investigators are in the process of reviewing video footage from the area and analyze items that were discarded by the perpetrator(s), reported Cpl.  Louis-Philippe Gendron-Fafard of Columbia Valley RCMP.

There have been several similar instances over the last few months and investigators will be reviewing recent similar cases, Cpl. Gendron-Fafard said, adding, “This mischief has been costly to repair/cover up for the school district and Columbia Valley RCMP will be looking for information that would assist in arresting the person(s) responsible for these act.”

Information can be shared by calling the Columbia Valley RCMP or contacting Crime Stoppers.
