Big detour dates announced

Mid April to mid May is going to be a helluva busy month for communities between Radium Hot Springs and Golden.

The BC Government and Government of Canada have announced the first long-expected closure of Highway 1 east of Golden to enable Kicking Horse Canyon Project Phase 4 construction from April 12 to May 14.

That means traffic will be detoured from Highway 1 at Castle Mountain Junction down Highway 93 to Radium Hot Springs and then back north to Golden on Highway 95, adding at least 1.5 hours to travel time.

“The construction zone will be opened to local/commuter traffic, escorted by a pilot vehicle, during one half-hour period in the morning and one half-hour period in the afternoon. Similar escorts will be provided for school buses,” reports the joint government project webpage.
