Wind warning for Kootenay National Park

Environment Canada earlier today issued a special weather statement for Kootenay and Yoho National Parks, warning about strong winds.

A cold front is moving across the southern B.C. interior and will reach Washington State this afternoon.

Strong southerly winds have developed ahead of the front, with strong gusty west to northwest winds behind the front. As the wind direction shifts, a brief period of very strong gusts in excess of 80 km/h are possible, Environment Canada stated.

Winds will remain gusty through the afternoon and ease this evening throughout the East Kootenay, with winds anticipated from 20 to 60 km/h.
