Over $1.6 million given to B.C. women
Since 2008, women students in B.C. have been granted $1,698,310 in scholarships and bursaries from the 1,847 members in 23 Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) clubs across this province.
Monies have been raised through volunteer efforts of members from public forums to big events like the Cranbrook Club’s Annual Artisan Bazaar.
The 2014 Bazaar will be held Saturday, November 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cranbrook Golf Course on 2nd Street South where it has been held since its beginnings in 1984.

The motto for the national CFUW is ‘The Power of Women Working Together’ and is part of the International Federation of University Women. The Canadian Club passed a bill that women who wish to become a member no longer must possess a university degree. For more information about becoming a member, please go to the club’s website.
“Any woman who is motivated to make this a better, more just and equal community, province, country and world to live in is very welcome to join,” said Cathryn Henley, President of the Cranbrook Club.
The Cranbrook Club has 12 members locally and is a member of CFUW National, a non-political, voluntary, self-funded, bilingual and non-governmental organization of women university graduates in 110 clubs across Canada that works to improve the status of women and girls, education, peace, justice and human rights. CFUW holds special consultative status at the United Nations (ECOSOC) and belongs to the Sectoral Committee of education of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO. CFUW is the largest of 61 national affiliates of the International Federation of University Women (IFUW).
