All aboard the Sam Steele Express!

Sam Steele Society announces this year’s newest event.

Call it a Pub Crawl. Call it a Booze Cruise. Call it debauchery to your liver. Whatever you call it, it’s happening this year at Sam Steele Days! The Sam Steele Express has been expanded to include a night long loop throughout the city of Cranbrook. From 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, the Sam Steele Express can transport you and your alcohol fueled friends from location to location at no cost. Just hop on at the various scheduled stops along the route throughout the night, and you’re onto your next adventure!

“The concept was to include local establishments in the Saturday evening entertainment. Sam Steele Days attendance increases every year, including a large number of out of town guests,” says Sam Steele Society Chair Christy Wheeldon. “This event is the perfect opportunity for our community to showcase and support our local business community.”

The Sam Steele Express was developed with safety in mind. Along with regular taxi service, transportation endorsed by MADD Canada will continue to operate in the evening hours on Saturday, June 18, via Star Taxi’s extended van sponsored by Alliance Traffic Group Inc.

The City of Cranbrook is also offering free transportation on all regular bus routes and times of Cranbrook’s BC Transit buses that day.

“Safety is really important to the society,” added Wheeldon. “We know that people are going to participate in drinking, and our hopes is to discourage driving. The Sam Steele Express started as a way to encourage folks to leave their vehicles at their home or hotel. We are excited about increased participation by local businesses in the evening entertainment portion of the weekend, and are most hopeful that it reduces possibility of drinking and driving related incidents.”

Maps for the Sam Steele Express loop will be available on www.samsteeledays.org before festivities begin.

Businesses interested in being a stop on the Sam Steele Express loop should contact Maureen Frank, of the Sam Steele Society by Friday, May 27 at (250) 426-4161.
