College hosting annual Open House

College of the Rockies is hosting the annual Open House for community members and prospective students on Wednesday, February 8 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Cranbrook main campus.

This year’s Open House will be jam-packed with a wide variety of activities as well as information sessions. For those who are interested in seeing more of the college, a campus tour will take place at 4:10 p.m.

Information sessions include: What Parents Need to Know from 3:30 to 4 p.m. and again from 5:30 to 6 p.m., Financial Assistance and Awards from 4 to 4:30 p.m., and Upgrading for Academic and Career Entry from 4:30 to 5 p.m.

When not in an information session, attendees can check out the ‘rocking displays’ by the college’s geology department, see some of the latest industry equipment with the Kinesiology program, have their blood pressure taken by Practical Nursing students, and try out a welding simulator.

“The Open House promises to be not only informative but also a lot of fun.  Folks will want to stop by to sample the flambé station being presented by our Professional Cook students and chat with Chef Rusty Cox who, fresh off his team’s second place win at the Harbin Ice Sculpture competition in China, will have an ice sculpture on display,” said Jennifer Inglis, College of the Rockies’ Recruitment Officer.

The college’s Hairstyling and Fire Training programs will also be in attendance as will Continuing Education Blacksmithing instructor Henry Hamilton and the college’s Indigenous Education team.

The college is very happy to welcome several of their partners who will be taking part in the Open House, including the Ktunaxa Nation, Metis Nation, Work BC, the Industry Training Authority (ITA), the University of Lethbridge and the University of Victoria.  This event is a great opportunity to find out more about how to be a College and a university student at the same time through the Dual Admission agreements the college has with both the University of Lethbridge and the University of Victoria.

Education Advisors will be on hand to discuss course selection, prerequisites and the over 80 transfer agreements the college has with universities across Canada and abroad. The Admissions and Registration staff will also be available to help you to fill out an application form for the September semester.  If you apply at the Open House, the college will even waive their $30 application fee.

All attendees are eligible to enter their name into draws for a $300 tuition award, a $50 College of the Rockies gift card, and for tickets to an Avalanche game.
